The Wizard of Oz: Children’s Theatre Camp

The story is as familiar as it is beloved. That nasty tornado carries Dorothy and her canine pal Toto from the friendly confines of her Kansas home to a fabled fantasy of mystery in the land of Oz. Our story begins with the Illusionists who set the scene for the tale you are about to witness. With the help of the Munchkins and Glinda herself, the young Miss Gale and her loyal pooch join forces with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and, of course, the Cowardly Lion. Off they go down the Yellow Brick Road–side-stepping a Wicked Witch and her ferocious Kalidahs, Sprouts that are far nicer-looking than they act, and the loyal Green Guard–on their perilous journey to find the Wizard and ask for his help. For they are sure his Wizness will grant their wishes and send Dorothy and Toto back to their home­–or will he? We’ll never tell. Come see for yourself.

Theatre Camp and Audition Details:

THE WIZARD OF OZ will be presented on Saturday, August 24 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center. The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Federal Way, WA is brought to you by Arts Foundation Federal Way with support from the 4Culture and the Federal Way PAEC. An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of THE WIZARD OF OZ, presented by Arts Foundation Federal Way, on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00pm. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:30am and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions.

RSVP now to attend the audition! RSVP does not guarantee a role in the show or spot in the theatre camp. All participants must audition and receive a role to participate.

Among the roles to be cast are Dorothy, Toto, the Lion, the Tin Man, the Professor/Wizard, the Green Guard, Glinda, the Wicked Witch, Mayor Munchkin, Farmer Munchkin, the Munchkins, the Kalidahs, the Illusionists and the Sprouts. Students grades 1st grade through 12th grade as of Fall 2024 are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities. The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, and props.  MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm each day. Not all roles will be required at each rehearsal. Students will be given a schedule or rehearsals they are required to attend through the week following the audition.
